1st Graders Dancing to Franti & Spearhead

I teach first graders and our school district after so many years of cutting recess time back for the benefit of "learning time," now requires so much time per day for movement and exercise-Horray! We do a morning workout on the school news program, recess, and then we have a break for the teachers choice, walks, etc. I choose to let my students have dance time. We usually have music like, YMCA, Cha Cha Slide, Surfin' USA. This week I took some Michael Franti & Spearhead and put it on. The kids went nuts for it and were really getting down. After I played Sound of Sunshine and Say Hey, a student came up to me and said, "Thanks for playing Bob Marley." I laughed and said, "That wasn't Bob Marley, but it kinda reminds you of him doesn't it." Today the students requested that "stuff I played yesterday." So MF & Spearhead rock out in first grade classrooms.
