You are my favorite artist, and I am constantly amazed by your ability to write/perform songs that are both funky dance beats and relevant messages about living mindfully and practicing peace. Your music reminds me so much of Sonia Sanchez's message that we are all responsible to "be peace...carry peace...be love...carry love" for both ourselves and each other.
However, as a fan, I have to ask you a critical question (out of respect only). I saw you perform recently at the House of Blues in Boston, MA and was struck by how different this experience was from earlier shows I've seen. I used to go to your shows at Pearl Street Night Club and Iron Horse Music Hall in Noho as well as many of your festival performances...whenever you were in town, college friends and I would go, hang out, dance our ... off, and sing all the way home. Your music was our mantra (words/beats that both affirmed and helped to shape our developing philosophies) and going to those shows was just plain fun. We always met and had great conversations with other fans and just had a plain great time! At the House of Blues, however, the experience was totally the opposite. There was no space to dance in the mezzanine...the place was packed (yay!) but security was freaked out by this and asked us to move/sit down/get out of the aisles/don't step over that line/etc no matter where we tried to stand)...and other fans in the audience totally absorbed this "get out the way" attitude...I left feeling baffled and disappointed. What had happened on stage during the show/the music/etc was so totally Spearhead, but being in that audience was so totally frustrating. I spent $45 on a ticket to a show that I wasn't (because of the nature of the venue) allowed to enjoy.
