A lot of people have been writing in to the site wondering where they can find the "Hey Hey Hey" song we've been playing live on the John Mayer tour. We are busy working on a recorded version of it for our next album, Sound of Sunshine. But in the meantime, I thought you all might want to read the lyrics so you can better sing along at the show. I know it's not the same as the real song, but I'm going to video an acoustic version with the chord changes soon so stay tuned to www.michaelfranti.com if you want to learn how to sing it and play it. But for today, here are the words.
See ya on the road,
Michael Franti
HEY HEY HEY (No Matter How Life Is Today)
By Michael FrantiIt’s been a long time coming that I had to say
When I wake up in the morning all I do is pray
For some guidance and protection on the streets today
And an answer to the questions I ask everyday
So tell me why do the birds that used to fly here
Tell me why do they come to die here
And all the kids that used to run here
Tell me why do they load their guns here
I remember, in the days when,
We were one heart no need to defend
I just wrap my arms around
Don’t give up this song is for youHey, hey, hey, no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip away
I say hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip awayI hold on, I’m trying to hold on,
I hold on, hold on, hold on, I hold onFrom the tops of the buildings to the streets below
From the Wall Street banks to the empty homes
Between the lines of the people standing all in a row
There’s a crack in the gutter where a flower grows
Reminding me that everything is possible
Yeah reminding me that nothing is impossible
You gotta live for the one that you love you know
You gotta love for the life that you live you knowSingin’ hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip away
I say hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip awayI hold on, I’m trying to hold on,
I hold on, I’m trying to hold onUntil the morning comes again, I will remain with you my friend
And we will ride until the sun, goes to the place where it begun
and we will live to laugh and cry another dayDon’t let nobody ever tell you that it couldn’t be done
Don’t let nobody ever tell you that we couldn’t be one
Don’t let nobody ever tell you that it shouldn’t be sung
Don’t let nobody ever tell you you’re the only oneSingin’ hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip away
I say hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip awayWoah oh oh oh, I hold on
Woah oh oh oh, I hold on
Woah oh oh oh, I’m just trying to hold on
Woah oh oh oh, trying to hold on
Woah oh oh oh, trying to hold onI say hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip away
I say hey, hey, hey no matter how life is today
There’s just one thing that I got to say
I won’t let another moment slip awayI hold on, I’m trying to hold on,
I hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, I hold on

I need John Mayer to refund my money
Hi Michael I hope that you will read this. I'm a black female, John Mayer offended me with his comments. I bought tickets for his March 25, 2010 concert and I would like for John to give me my 100 dollars back. If you could please help me to meet John, I want to hand him my ticket and he can hand me 100 dollars. Please help me, thank you.

Hey Hey Hey Michael!
I was at the concert on February 24th in Boston and I LOVED this song! I was equally there for you and John Mayer! I've followed your music for a while now and it's legitimately all I play in my car. Plus, I've introduced a lot of my friends to the songs. A personal favorite of mine is "Bomb the World". You convey such wonderful messages in your music so just keep on going and I'll keep on listening! I would love to go to a concert where you guys are the main band so just know that people are rooting for you and we love your music. I wish I could meet you! Our takes on life are so similar and I love the way you write. Stay cool and I look forward to seeing you in concert again (anywhere from the east to the west)! :)

I can't get this song out of my head! :)
Hey Hey Hey Michael! I was introduced to y'all and your music through John Mayer's concerts in OKC and Dallas. We liked you so much the first time, we HAD to get to the second concert earlier to make sure we caught the whole show. I learned a lot about how opening acts should be - moving around the arena caused the people who were still seated to stand up. Fan interaction is a key that JM mastered years ago. This is one of the reasons why so many people see JM multiple times on the same tour - no two shows are the same. Sing-alongs are great as well and this song is a great example. I can't wait for this single and album to be available, as I am happy to patronize such a passionate artist. Finally, it is such a shame that someone would try to ruin your posting of the lyrics by airing an irrelevant and irrational comment. I'd be happy to buy her ticket just to be able to sing this song again with you!
Cheers

Soulfull Music !
LaLaOrange..we must freely forgive one another.
I know the hurt that you feel b/c of John Mayer comments.
As I too felt the slap.On feb 26 I attended the concert at Madison Garden...few rows from the stage. Close enough that Micheal Franti invited me on stage and sung a sweet song to me!...now let me tell you I had no knowledge on the racist and degrading words Mayer had said about black women that night. Guess what though..I am glad I didnt know b/c I had a wonderfull time.Sister...my Ehtiopian self danced my butt off that night....And No I dont want my money back..For what?...I met a true artist that night girl...one who loves humanity and communicates it well through music...what a soldier!
Our John on the other hand...we gta forgive him and continue to love him. Truthfully he messed up...But dont we all at some point?..then we learn to undo our wrong doings...we keep repeating this process till we reach
this blissfull state...where we all are one...nothing is to seperate us. So till we get there we will continue to offend. Besides..John doesnt speak for every white man in this world.
If I can tell john one thing...bro you are who you are because of your fans..take care of them. You want to grow old with them ?.If you want us to stay around and grow with u john...u need to be respectful. Plus we are gorgeous...lovin...sisters. And u havnt even tried brown sugar...to get that freaked out over it! I dont know what dave dkkk... means to u and your family. But to many...blacks and whites..he is inhuman and full of hate. The man doesnt deserve to co-exist with humans..This duke dude will die....and he is to take nothing with him. So scary.... He is a man of hate. The oppossite of love is Hate. With Lovless there is a chance. With hate there is no hope.
Hate breeds... rape...lynching...war. Lets please end Hate.
I gt a great idea...lets just play music and love each other !
