Marking the highest chart debut of Michael’s career, Michael & Spearhead’s The Sound of Sunshine is set to extend the summer sunshine into the fall with its “festival-friendly reggae-pop grooves and radiant, hope-filled songs” (USA Today). The Sound of Sunshine debuted at #17 surpassing the debut of 2008’s All Rebel Rockers which came in at #39.

A deluxe iTunes LP version of the album is available for purchase featuring the video and single versions of “The Sound of Sunshine," the radio edit of “Shake It” and extensive live and behind the scenes photos.   

The news comes on the heels of one of the biggest years in Michael’s career with All Rebel Rockers platinum single “Say Hey (I Love You)” going to the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart and the music video garnering over five million views on YouTube. He’s also celebrated widespread success touring with Counting Crows and John Mayer, filling Golden Gate Park to near capacity this year for his annual Power to the Peaceful Festival and making appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Lopez Tonight. 

“After making albums for 23 years, I'm thrilled to have my first top 20 album. I haven't seen the whole chart, but I might be the only artist in the top 20 this week whose first record released was actually a vinyl record! I'm grateful to all the fans who've shared our music with their friends all these years and to the nice folks at radio and venues around the country who have given us the opportunity to shine,” says Michael.

Fans can catch Michael making a special guest appearance on the season premiere of the award-winning concert television series Austin City Limits featuring reggae pioneer and Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame 2010 inductee Jimmy Cliff. The premiere will air October 2nd on PBS. Please check local listings for exact times.

In addition, “The Sound of Sunshine” single is currently Top 25 on the Adult Top 40 chart and growing. This week, “The Sound of Sunshine” music video was included as one of Michael’s video picks as he served as the curator for YouTube Music Tuesdays, their most sought after promotion, which involves a day long main page feature with his personal YouTube video selections.  

Michael & Spearhead are on tour in support of the album and will be making stops in many cities throughout the U.S. and Canada including NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto. Eight cities on the tour will be a part of a “Barefoot Concert Series.” As a part of Michael’s partnership with international shoe charity, Soles4Souls. The series is part of a Franti/Soles4Souls effort to sponsor 100,000 pairs of shoes to raise awareness of the need for footwear both nationally and internationally.
