Michael's Call To Action For Haiti
-
January 19, 2010
As you know, on January 13th one of the most devastating earthquakes in 200 years hit Port au Prince. The people of Haiti need your immediate help. Join us in a call to action!
This catastrophic emergency has been made worsened by the poverty of the country, the collapse of hospitals and the severe damage to roads, water supplies and other infrastructure. CARE has been working in Haiti since 1954 and many of their staff were part of the emergency response to the devastating Hurricane Hanna in 2008.
Homes and buildings across the city have been destroyed, including essential services like hospitals. Electricity is out and phone lines are down across the affected area, restricting available information about the extent of the disaster. Aftershocks continue to rock the area and have caused landslides outside the city.
You have the ability to help. Please show your support by donating anything you can. Every little bit will help. CARE has launched an international appeal for funds for Haiti that will support immediate emergency operations. CARE plans to start food distribution using stocks of high-protein biscuits from its warehouses in Haiti. CARE is coordinating with other UN agencies and aid organizations to assess damage and on-the-ground needs.

Relief Efforts
My Key Club at school (community service) raised $2,200 and then doubled it to give to the American Red Cross for Haiti Relief. Also, another club that I'm in, Peacejam (community service), raised %600 to go to CARE. These are such wonderful organizations and I know we made a difference! It feels great to know we helped! :)
